Exploring Inner Turmoil and Growth
At the core of FITS lies the concept of “throwing fits” internally—a metaphor for the inner struggles and dialogues we experience while navigating life’s challenges. “This project explores taking bold, sometimes unconventional actions to reconnect with our true selves,” FIG explains. “It also examines the mental strain of forming and ending relationships, and how these moments push us toward personal growth.”
Collaborative Efforts and Unique Vision
The project features contributions from FIG’s frequent collaborators, including Julian Kaufman and Charlie Kilgore of indie R&B group MICHELLE, Frankie Scoca (NewJeans, dhruv), Nick Catrambone, and Maya Polsky. The lead single, “Opposite Day,” with a dynamic verse from rapper Yoshi T., captures the album’s vibrant energy. FIG also draws creative inspiration from the theme of scale, symbolizing the overwhelming yet transformative power of extreme behaviors in rediscovering oneself.
“Many of the songs stemmed from conversations with friends where we shared personal stories,” FIG reveals. “In the past, I hesitated to express ideas until they felt ‘perfect.’ This time, I embraced every idea, which freed me from overthinking and led to a more authentic creative process. It also allowed me to explore emotions like love and loss, topics I had previously avoided.”
Standout Tracks and Themes
- “Boyfriend”: A standout indie R&B track that navigates the tension of a one-sided friendship. With moody production and sharp lyrics, it’s a poignant anthem for anyone grappling with toxic relationships and reclaiming their self-worth.
- “Solo Dates” and “Let It Burn”: These tracks celebrate self-reliance and the joy of one’s own company. FIG reflects on the strength found in solitude, highlighting the personal growth that comes from embracing independence.
A Journey of Vulnerability and Growth
FITS offers a rich tapestry of emotions, inviting listeners to sit with their own feelings while exploring themes of connection, heartbreak, and self-love. FIG’s introspective storytelling and evocative soundscape create a relatable experience for anyone navigating the complexities of human relationships.
With FITS, FIG cements her place as a rising voice in the indie pop/R&B scene, blending authenticity with musical innovation.
