Artful Identities: CCP Children’s Biennale 2024

Step into a world of imagination and innovation at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Children’s Biennale 2024: Let’s Play!—a captivating festival where creativity meets technology, taking place November 9-10, 2024, at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati. This lively two-day event will feature colorful exhibits, interactive workshops, animated film screenings, and live performances, all designed to ignite young imaginations.

Children’s Biennale: Let’s Play! is open to children of all ages, their families, and the young at heart, inviting everyone to explore, create, and play through various artistic expressions. The biennale aims to foster artistic appreciation and cultural curiosity, providing children with an enriching experience that celebrates Philippine arts and indigenous culture.

A key highlight is the animated film Before Brabant, directed by Alberto “Chino” Rodriguez. It follows young Helyas as he embarks on a journey to find his family amidst challenges, with a live score by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) led by Maestro Grzegorz Nowak. This special screening will feature a stellar lineup including tenor Ervin Lumauag, soprano Stefanie Quintin, baritone Byeong-In Park, and renowned soprano Andion Fernandez. Screenings are scheduled for November 9, at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

On November 10, the Children’s Biennale presents Mga Kuwento ni Juan Tamad, a magical dance performance by the Alice Reyes Dance Philippines (ARDP). Choreographed by Erl Sorilla under the mentorship of National Artist for Dance Alice Reyes and ARDP artistic director Ronelson Yadao, this enchanting piece brings to life the classic story of Juan Tamad on his quest for the legendary “Gintong Niyog” (Golden Coconut). The piece intertwines folk narratives with vibrant music by Toto Sorioso and familiar characters that will captivate young and old alike. Performances will be held at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Throughout the festival, enjoy interactive pre-show activities at the Samsung Theater lobby from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. Children can explore fun CCP projects like Young at ART, where they’ll listen to conversations between young and seasoned artists; Tara, Laro Ta(y)o, a celebration of traditional Filipino games and indigenous dances; and Himig Himbing: Mga Heleng Atin, a heartwarming introduction to Philippine lullabies.

In the spirit of inclusivity, the CCP Children’s Biennale: Let’s Play! will follow a Pay-What-You-Can scheme, inspired by CCP’s Pasinaya: The Open House Festival, ensuring that this magical experience is accessible to all. To register, visit this link.
