GCash and Alipay+ Simplify Asian Travel Payments

Scan-to-Pay expanded to the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Thailand, UAE, and more

Filipino travelers can now enjoy an even more seamless cashless experience in additional destinations thanks to the expanded partnership between GCash, the Philippines’ leading finance super app, and Alipay+, the cross-border mobile payment and digitalization platform operated by Ant International. This collaboration extends the convenience of GCash’s Scan-to-Pay feature to more than 45 markets, including recent additions like mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, Thailand, and the UAE at select Alipay+-enabled stores.

With this partnership, Filipinos traveling to China can now effortlessly use GCash’s Scan-to-Pay for a wide range of transactions, whether they’re attending business events in Shanghai or exploring tourist spots in Beijing. There are no service fees and users benefit from low foreign exchange rates, making it easy to save with each payment. Over 80 million merchants across China accept Alipay+, including popular spots like Shangri-La Hotels, Haidilao Hot Pot, KFC, McDonald’s, and more.

In Hong Kong, a city known for its vibrant mix of shopping, sightseeing, and dining, Filipino tourists can now also enjoy cashless convenience at Alipay+-enabled stores. From shopping sprees to food trips and visits to attractions like Ocean Park and Ngong Ping 360, GCash users can pay effortlessly.

GCash’s reach also extends to Macao, the UAE, Thailand, and other destinations. In Macao, it’s accepted at Sands Resorts, Wynn Resorts, Duty-Free Americas, and more. In the UAE, Filipino travelers can use GCash at Dubai Duty-Free, Dubai Mall, Mall of Emirates, and Abu Dhabi taxis. In Thailand, GCash payments are supported at over 400,000 merchants, including Central Retail, The Mall Group, King Power Mahanakhon, and Jim Thompson House Museum.

To pay at partner merchants, users need to look for the Alipay+ logo at checkout, open the GCash app, select the QR or PayQR button, and either scan the merchant’s QR code or generate a QR code for the merchant to scan. After confirming the amount, just click Pay to complete the transaction.

“We want to ensure that every Filipino can fully maximize their GCash account no matter where they are in the world. We’re excited to expand our partnership with Alipay+ and offer GCash users even more destinations to make the most of their travels,” said Paul Albano, GCash International General Manager.

Edward Yue, General Manager of Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand at Ant International, added, “Our continued collaboration with GCash makes it easier for Filipinos traveling abroad to enjoy smooth and transparent payment experiences, especially during the busy year-end travel season. With GCash, Filipinos can travel with their preferred payment app, hassle-free.”
