Manila, Philippines – Once again, it’s time to rally behind the Philippines as the country competes in multiple categories at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2024.
The Philippines is vying for the titles of World’s Leading Beach Destination, World’s Leading Dive Destination, and World’s Leading Island Destination for 2024. The country is the reigning champion for both Beach and Dive Destination categories, having claimed these awards last year.
Additionally, several renowned tourist spots across the Philippines have earned nominations in various categories.
Intramuros, the historic walled city, is a contender for the title of World’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2024, competing against 21 other iconic locations from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Portugal, the United States, China, Ireland, Vietnam, Peru, and others.
The capital city of Manila is also defending its crown as World’s Leading City Destination, a title it won in 2023. This year, Manila will once again compete against cities from Mexico, Colombia, South Africa, Qatar, Hong Kong, the United States, Portugal, and more.
Boracay Island, known for its pristine white sand, is eyeing the World’s Leading Luxury Island award for 2024. It will go up against destinations like Jersey in the UK, Mustique in the Caribbean, and The Bahamas.
Cebu, celebrated for its heritage sites and natural wonders, is in the running for World’s Leading Wedding Destination 2024, competing against popular destinations like Abu Dhabi, Bali, Barbados, Jamaica, and Saint Lucia.

At the Asia and Oceania Gala Ceremony 2024, held in Parañaque City last September, the Philippines took home eight awards, including Asia’s Leading Dive Destination, Beach Destination, and Island Destination. Intramuros, Boracay, and Cebu also received top honors in their respective categories, and the “Love the Philippines” campaign won Asia’s Leading Marketing Campaign. DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco was also recognized with the Transformational Leader Award in Tourism Governance.
The Philippines has consistently been a top contender in the World Travel Awards, having won numerous titles for its beaches, dive spots, and tourism efforts. The DOT has previously won as Asia’s Leading Tourist Board in 2019 and 2020.
Secretary Frasco expressed her gratitude for the continued recognition of the Philippines’ beauty and culture, encouraging Filipinos and international travelers alike to vote and show their love for the country.
