Over 12 million kilos of recyclables collected in 2024.
Every first Friday and Saturday of the month, SM Supermalls transforms into a sustainability hub through its nationwide ‘Trash to Cash’ (TTC) recycling market. This long-running initiative, launched in 2007 as part of SM’s Waste-Free Future campaign, allows individuals to exchange recyclable waste for cash, encouraging waste segregation, environmental awareness, and financial empowerment for communities.
Held across 87 SM malls nationwide, TTC provides an accessible platform for shoppers, tenants, and local communities to actively participate in sustainable waste management. By ensuring that recyclables are properly sorted and repurposed, the program supports the circular economy and reinforces SM Supermalls’ commitment to responsible environmental stewardship.

Making Sustainability Rewarding and Impactful
The impact of TTC has been remarkable. In 2024 alone, the initiative successfully collected over 12 million kilograms of recyclables, generating ₱28 million in earnings for participants. This is equivalent to saving 204,000 trees if all waste collected were paper or reducing 18,000 tons of carbon emissions if all were plastic.
“TTC is more than just a recycling program—it’s a movement that empowers communities to turn environmental responsibility into real opportunities,” said SM Supermalls President Steven Tan. “By participating, people not only contribute to waste reduction but also gain financial incentives, proving that sustainability can be both impactful and rewarding.”
As climate challenges continue to escalate, TTC highlights how small, collective actions can lead to significant environmental change. By joining this program, individuals help fight waste pollution, support the circular economy, and take a meaningful step toward a greener future.

How to Join SM’s ‘Trash to Cash’ Recycling Movement
Participating in TTC is simple and convenient. Drop-off points are available nationwide at participating SM malls, where customers can properly dispose of recyclable materials such as paper, plastic bottles, and other waste. To get involved:
