Filipino Travelers Lead Asia in Sustainable Travel, According to Agoda’s 2025 Survey

Digital travel platform Agoda’s 2025 Sustainable Travel Survey has revealed that Filipino travelers are the most sustainability-conscious in Asia. According to the survey, 86% of Filipino respondents consider sustainability an important factor in their 2025 travel plans—significantly higher than the regional average of 68%. India (82%), Taiwan (80%), Malaysia (80%), and Vietnam (77%) complete the top five rankings.

Sustainable Travel Gains Momentum in Asia

The survey, which gathered insights from over 6,000 respondents across 11 Asian markets, highlights a growing trend toward more responsible and purposeful travel. Travelers are prioritizing authentic experiences, off-peak travel, and eco-friendly accommodations, demonstrating a shift towards sustainability-conscious tourism.

Authenticity and Local Support Drive Filipino Travelers

Filipino travelers are increasingly drawn to authentic experiences and the opportunity to make a positive impact on local communities. According to the survey, 25% of Filipino respondents prioritize supporting local economies, while 22% seek authentic tourism experiences. Similarly, Vietnamese travelers emphasize personal values and beliefs, with one in five citing these as their main motivation for adopting more sustainable travel habits. This growing movement underscores a preference for travel that is both meaningful and responsible.

Off-Peak Travel and Eco-Conscious Choices

Another key trend among Filipino travelers is their effort to reduce environmental impact by traveling during off-peak seasons, a choice made by 18% of respondents. Additionally, 17% of travelers opt for accommodations with sustainability certifications, while 19% actively reduce waste by packing reusable items such as water bottles and shopping bags.

Michael Hwang, Country Director, Philippines at Agoda, commended Filipino travelers for their conscious travel choices, stating, “It’s inspiring to see Filipino travelers actively making choices that leave a positive impact on the destinations they visit. Agoda’s Eco Deals Program supports these efforts by offering great value deals on partnering properties. For every booking made through the program, Agoda donates one US dollar to support local conservation projects, allowing travelers to see the world for less while giving back to the places they love.”
